[skills]

Web design:
I have been web developing and designing for about six years. I have designed and produced the corporate web site for Gregson And Bell Lifts, as well as work for third-party clients on behalf of Sporting Life, including co-production of the previous Ascot Racecourse site. I have broad knowledge of HyperText Mark-up Language (self-taught), Java (as part of the university course, and used at Sporting Life to design/build a dynamic XML-to-HTML transfer system), and of PERL and CGI (used at Sporting Life for various projects including a system producing content for third-party customers from SL's databases), as well as some knowledge of JavaScript, style sheets (CSS), XML, XSL (both of these used, along with Perl CGI, to create Betting Odds tables found at http://www.sportinglife.com/zone/), and Dynamic HTML. I have also got a good knowledge of using art packages, including PhotoShop and Paint Shop Pro, which I have used in the past in the construction of graphics for various sources, both work-related and of my own personal sites.

Other programming:
In addition to the above skills, I also have some knowledge of other languages, including C/C++, BASIC-based languages, and some LISP, the latter through my course. Although the knowledge of these is quite basic, I am more than willing to learn more of the languages if necessary.

Computer Skills:
I am also proficient with other applications of computers, including word processing (mainly Microsoft Word), database and spreadsheet use (especially Microsoft Excel and Access), and some knowledge of using Microsoft PowerPoint. My typing is competent. I have also knowledge of using both the various versions of Microsoft Windows, and UNIX-based systems.

[interests]

Authoring:
I have been a writer of fictional stories for many years. The main genre I write in is in the area of science fiction and fantasy, and although most of the stories I have written have tended towards comedy, I have more recently started moving into more serious works, and have even written some poetry. Some of my stories can be found on my homepage, mentioned above.

Sports:
I am a big sports fan, both in playing and in spectating. Recently, I have indulged in playing sports such as pool and darts, but I enjoy a game of football now and again. I am also an avid fan of motor racing, especially Formula 1, and also try to attend as many Bradford City matches as I can.

Other interests:
My other interests include webpage design (as mentioned above) and socialising with friends.
